Failure at 6 AM

This is the first time in six months that I didn't complete a hike that I started. I was up early on the trail and not really feeling from step one. My clothes were not comfortable, my poles needed adjusting, and I just felt achy. I did go the gym the night before, but that is hardly an excuse.

I thought I would hit Annapolis Rock by 700 am so I could see the sunrise. By the time the sun rose, I was back in the car heading for home. I did manage to get 3 miles in but I was planning on hiking 8 miles. So not even half. A bit disappointing.

Tomorrow I will go back out and try it again. Hopefully with better results.

There is such a strong mental component to hiking that a lot of people underestimate. If you are just not into it is really hard to motivate your body forward. On days like this I wish I was hiking with someone to kick me in the ass and tell me to finish what I started.

The good part of the hike is that I got out of the house and spend a short time a very short time out before the sun was up and anyone else was on the trail.

As to the quote, yeah I know where the finish line was, but I really didn't care. When hiking on unfamiliar trails you always feel like you are 10 miles from your destination and in truth you are a lot closer than you think. In a way apps take away from that sense adventure in not knowing exactly where you are.

As always
